Victorian Strawberry Collection
This kit was inspired by a pair of slippers, embroidered in 1858 by the elderly Duchess of Kent as a Christmas gift for her daughter Queen Victoria. These slippers can be found in the collection of the Museum of London. The slippers were embroidered in a tent stitch using colored silk and wools, and the white strawberry flowers were worked entirely with beads. The Duchess probably followed a pattern published at the time and would have had her work made up professionally into slippers, edged with pale red velvet and lined with fine white tabby silk. |
